Why this petition matters

As it stands right now, there are thousands of horror stories of people's Spotify accounts being hacked while they've paid to use this platform without ads. The intruder can change the user's email and password right from the website without any sort of barricade, and users rarely ever get their accounts back. I myself got hacked by someone in Egypt, and Spotify had the audacity to tell me their platform is secure.

Not only can they change your information, but they could quite possibly take your credit card information, view your address from the dashboard, -and- change/stop your music every time you try to listen, if you're lucky enough to have access to your account still. 2FA has been "under consideration" by Spotify since 2018 and to be honest, it's quite ridiculous they haven't done anything yet. It's 2021, and their only response has been "Whilst 2-factor authentication is one security protection we of course consider, it is currently not a specific legal requirement and Spotify has other appropriate security measures in place in order to protect our user accounts from security threats." No you don't, Spotify. There are -still- people writing in the very forum post from 2015 where the idea was initially posted, a lot of them discussing how they'd been hacked, myself included, which the fact that they took three years to even mark the idea as under consideration is also ridiculous. Here's a link to said forum.

So basically, "Until we're legally obligated to add in 2FA, you're all screwed lol!" As it is now Spotify likes to absolve themselves of responsibility, their page on how to keep their accounts safe blaming victims rather than acknowledging that they've got what is the most outdated security system I've ever seen to this day, and the fact that they supposedly mooch off of Facebook's security system is honestly not very reassuring at all, as I know someone who had their credit card stolen three times from buying in-game items. Here's their page on what to do if you've been hacked! As you can see, it's almost entirely reliant on you having access to your account. I've heard many people have not been able to recover it, and I can't help but wonder what happens to their debit/credit cards if they've been paying for Premium. Does Spotify cancel it? Or do they have to call their bank to charge back the cost? The staff tends to not give answers, I asked for myself, and they only really sent me the above link on what to do if you think you've been hacked.

I'm not sure this petition will do anything to sway them. However I'll be damned if I go down without trying. I'd appreciate if y'all would consider trying as well, as I wont be using the platform again until this is implemented. I hope you have a great rest of your day, and thank you for reading <3
