Why this petition matters

Started by Interheart Kuwait

In Kuwait we have mosques in every corner, a handful of churches and nothing else. There are Jewish people in Kuwait who do not even "reveal" their identity for fear of discrimination. Hindus have no public temple where they can worship, Sikhs have no public gurdwaras, Buddhists and Jains and Baha'is and those of other religions worship in private. Many argue this is a Muslim country, but what about our neighbors and fellow Muslim countries? They are Muslim countries too. The Muslim World League recently hosted an Interfaith Forum in Saudi Arabia with leaders from various religions and sects. We are one of a few countries in the Islamic world where only churches are "permitted" (and there is even a branch of Christianity that is facing issues with "bureaucracy"). Kuwait needs to be more welcoming. Since there are a few who use interfaith opportunities as a means to convert others, this petition invites us to embrace others without trying to convert them or face being converted by other groups. Freedom of worship does not involve coercion in any way, and it even respects those who are atheists, agnostics, or spiritual but not religious. Let's make Kuwait a community for those of all faiths and no faiths.
