Save The Eagle Lake Boat Launch From Closing
The Adirondack Park Agency ( APA) has decided to close the Eagle Lake Boat Launch to trailered boats. This action goes against the “preferred option 3” that was proposed in the 2019 Hammond Pond UMP. This action will cut off access to property owners who can only access their properties from the water. It will also limit the public from accessing the lake, camping area and beach with any boat that can’t be carried over the barrier to get it off the trailer.
Option 3 of the 2019 Unit Management plan was supposed to allow the launch to be studied for 5 years and then revisited before a decision was made.. In February, the APA made a decision, without any meaningful study, to close the launch at the end of the 2024 boating season.
The Town of Ticonderoga and Essex County have unanimously passed a resolution opposing the closure of the launch because it will negatively impact local residents and visitors to this site.
The Eagle Lake Boat launch was established in the 1930’s and has provided access to the lake, camping area and beach for nearly 100 years.
