Pave it back: make utility companies fix their #StreetScars
Why this petition matters
We've all seen this: the painstakingly laid paving stones or beautifully set Yorkstones adorning a slow street or in front of recently repaired parade of Victorian shops, only to be carelessly destroyed within a matter of months, weeks, or even days.
Instead of preserving them, the utility companies pull them up in slices and squares, crack them or worse, throw them away needlessly and replace them with a scar of tarmac which lingers for months or years or forever, seemingly mocking the pride and self-worth of the local communities.
“I am authority”, it seems to say. “I am from nowhere. I serve the needs of a nameless, placeless corporation. I don’t care about you, or your neighbourhood or your friends. You don’t matter. Your local aspirations are pointless and petty. Get lost. I don’t care.”
Create Streets' latest report #StreetScar sets out precisely the legislative and regulatory changes required to fix this.
