Why this petition matters

Update (March 20th, 2024)

At this new time of writing (March 20th, 2024), the Lego DC Super Heroes line has not had a non-Batman set available for DC since the end of 2021 (being 76157: Wonder Woman vs. Cheetah). Through both 2022 and 2023, the DC theme has averaged only 7 sets each year. And in that time, many iconic and inspiring characters such as Wonder Woman and Superman have been absent from Lego's DC offering. Furthermore, many other superheroes such as The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Shazam, and thousands of other characters are at the ready to spark kid's imaginations and drive them to aspire for more.

Some of the movies that have come out since 2021 include Black Adam, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Blue Beetle, The Flash, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. With all these film releases and opportunities to create Lego products, not a single Lego set has been released for any of these movies. With James Gunn's planned revival of the DC movie universe starting with Superman in 2025, there is hope for a revival of DC Lego sets. But seeing all the recent movies that have not been used as inspiration for Lego sets makes me and many other fans worried about the future of the DC theme

Other small but great kids shows that are currently airing such as Batwheels, My Adventures with Superman, and Teen Titans Go! have not had Lego sets made for their respective shows.

I'll also point out that many of the locations and characters used in the description of the DC Theme on Lego.com are not currently referenced in Lego form whatsoever.

In solving this problem, there are many solutions that would be profitable for Lego, DC Comics, and Warner Brothers as well as DC fans alike.

One solution would simply to make sets of large, iconic locations. A comparable location that Marvel has (76269: Avengers Tower) is a large and popular set that has done very well. Locations in the DC universe such as the Hall of Justice or the Daily Planet could have the same potential to reach a wide market.

Another solution could be to take a different route from Marvel by being more focused on comic book scenes: taking epic moments from comic book history and recreating them in Lego form. This could not only be included with an excerpt of a comic book, either digitally or physically, to showcase the context of the scene, but it would also connect young Lego fans to become new comic book readers and familiarize them with various characters throughout comic book history. Another outcome of this approach is that it encourages young people to be more interested in reading.

When I think of DC and its comic book history, it means more to me than just a fun or interesting story. DC showcases the best ideals in people we can aspire to be. It inspires us to overcome and persevere through our challenges in the real world. What could be a better opportunity than to connect young builders to reading and inspiration? If you feel as strongly about this as I do, then please sign the petition and let the people at Lego, DC, and Warner Brothers know how strongly we feel about this. And if you know anyone that works at any of these companies, please do your best to share this sentiment with them.

Old writeup (October 28, 2021)

At the time of writing (October 28, 2021), the Lego DC Super Heroes line of products only has one set available that is not Batman. Batman is an incredible and popular character, but DC Comics has over 10,000 different characters, spanning almost a century of comic book legacy. There are plenty of great comics to get inspiration from to design new Lego sets. Batman has appeared in every DC set (with the exception of 76157: Wonder Woman vs. Cheetah) since 2019. There were only 7 sets released in 2021: all of them include and focus on Batman. And with The Batman movie coming out in 2022, with a line of sets to accompany its release, it looks like the lack of variety within the Lego DC theme will remain for the foreseeable future.

There was a small period at the start of 2020 where Lego released the DC Collectible Minifigures line of characters, including some obscure characters never seen before in Lego form. I thought this would be the start of a rejuvenation within the DC Comics theme. But alas, I was sadly mistaken.

There are many popular shows that are based in the DC universe such as Superman & Lois, Young Justice, Titans, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Doom Patrol, Supergirl, and Stargirl just to name a few. And there are high-quality animated movies that are produced each year, providing a great outlet for comic books to come to life.

If you want to make mostly Batman in the DC theme, why don't you just make Batman as his own theme and use all the other DC characters as a focus in the DC Super Heroes line? If you go to Lego.com and search by themes, you'll see that Batman has his own theme and DC has its own theme, but they are not treated as separate. Again, I love Batman, but he should not steal the spotlight from all the other characters in the DC Universe.

The Lego Marvel theme got a very impressive set in the 76178: Daily Bugle, featuring 25 characters from the Marvel Universe. My question is: why doesn't the DC Comics theme have something similar?

My call to you, fellow Lego and/or DC fan, is to sign this petition and convince Lego, DC Comics, and Warner Brothers to take more inspiration from the comic books and more from DC's movies and TV shows. The fantastic artistry, writing, and storytelling of DC comics needs to be honored in Lego form, and I think we can do it with this petition. If you share my passion for Lego and DC Comics, then this is the petition you need to sign.
