Why this petition matters

Started by OESA Charity

Hello Oxfordshire,

We are Oxfordshire Extreme Sports Association (OESA) and we would love your help in achieving our goal: to have an indoor space for extreme sports. At this stage, all we need is your signature on our petition so we can show in potential applications for funding that there is a significant interest in having such a facility.

Our community is teeming with passionate individuals who are eager to practice and improve their skills but we lack the facilities necessary to do so all year-round. The unpredictable weather often hinders our ability to train outdoors consistently, which can be discouraging for both beginners and seasoned athletes, and significantly hampers our progress in our respective sports.

According to Sport England's Active Lives Survey (2019/20), 3.6 million people participate in skateboarding or BMX riding nationwide. In Oxfordshire alone, there are thousands of active participants who would benefit from this facility.

The proposed project aims to build an indoor extreme sports facility that will enable us all - skateboarders, BMX riders, inline skaters and many more - to train regardless of weather conditions.

Such a facility would not only provide year-round training opportunities for athletes but also serve as an inclusive space for youth engagement and community building. It could improve mental health and reduce anti-social behaviour by providing young people with constructive outlets for their energy and creativity (source: Youth Sport Trust).

Please sign and help us get one step closer to bringing an indoor extreme sports facility into reality in Oxfordshire!
