The Fifth Street Police substation has been in the west Greenville area for more than two decades. And for two decades it has done nothing positive for the community it is positioned in. It’s there to serve the interests of wealthy business owners and gentrifiers; we know this is a fact due to the constant abuse and harassment the police station afflicts on its local residents. The city of Greenville spends more money on useless police substations like this instead of meeting the immediate needs of its poorest residents. West Greenville has no need for this. What the poor working class needs is reliable internet access, job training, and a living wage to name a few. With this in mind, we call upon the City of Greenville to transform the Fifth Street Police Substation into a People’s Resource Center!
