To Governor Kathy Hochul and New York State Elected Legislators,

Nassau Community College Needs Dedicated Leadership and Increased Funding.  NCC is facing several unprecedented challenges which we believe threaten the college’s immediate viability:

• Inadequate Leadership– Under the current leadership, the NCC presidency has become a revolving door. The college is rudderless.
• Decreasing Enrollment– NCC has seen its enrollment decrease from about 24,000 to just over 10,000 – over a 50% decline – in the last decade.
• Prematurely Closed Classes– Classes were prematurely and arbitrarily closed to registration weeks prior to the beginning of the spring 2022 semester. 
• Inadequate Marketing– College marketing efforts have been late, ineffective, and marked by clumsy, insensitive campaigns. 
• Deteriorating physical plant- Buildings in disrepair that make the college unhealthy and unwelcoming to students.
• The administration ignores the faculty's voice - this has resulted in policies detrimental to our students. 

We respectfully ask you to:

• Replace expired State appointed trustees.  We need trustees dedicated to NCC’s mission, to our students, and who respect the faculty’s role in education.
• Appoint Academic Leadership.  While the College searches for a new permanent president, we need an Acting President with academic credentials. 
• Invest in the College.  The State’s disinvestment in Higher Education over the past decade has been a disaster for NCC. We ask the State to live up to the provision in state education law to fund 40% of community colleges’ budgets. 

We need your support to create a strong stable future for Nassau Community College and our students.
