Why this petition matters

Please sign our petition for a Park!

  • Pier 5 is last open public waterfront destination along Boston's HarborWalk.
  • The Boston Charlestown Navy Yard and its public waterfront landmarks are Monumental, Historic.

Please visit our website https://pier5.org to learn more about saving this public space for generations to have access to the waterfront benefiting the local habitat, residents and visitors.

Nature Based
The waterfront should not be privatized into apartment complexes with fundamental waterfront experience blocking, impacting Boston's quality of life and health for generations. Nature based solutions are an investment in our future and our planet.

The “Imagine Boston 2030" program defines the need for waterfront public access with connected open space described by Richard McGuinness, Deputy Director for Climate Change and Environmental Planning at the Boston Planning & Development Agency to be:

An activated waterfront is anchored by varied types of open spaces, featuring cultural resources and year-round programming and connecting people with the natural, cultural, and economic history of the region.

Boston must ensure that Pier 5 is a waterfront park for everyone!
Climate Resiliency benefits of a nature based park includes the preservation of marine life, view sheds, birds, coral reefs, air quality, green space, heat respite, living shoreline, climate berm, with vital impacts on local habitat and mental health.

  • Removing a uniquely historic site from public use and encroaching on the open water is ill conceived, and wrong.
  • Private luxury development of public waterfront property is a mistake, immoral, and antithetical to all UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Courageous Sailing, our beloved and globally recognized public sailing center provides valuable learning for children is endangered by private development.
  • Historic Pier 5 should be an amenity for all to enjoy.
  • Please learn more and make your voice heard.

There is an opportunity for Boston to make healthful and ecological long term decisions. Our moral return on investment is to keep important public space, public.

You don't have to donate to sign. : )
