Why this petition matters

Started by Pantea Etessami

To His Honourable President Xi Jinping of China,

Via His Honourable Ambassador Zheng Zeguang

We the undersigned believe that certain citizens of China are committing heinous acts of cruelty to animals that transcends boundaries, cultural differences, and traditions. Certain acts are unacceptable and considered abhorrent internationally regardless of background and citizenship.

Organised CAT abuse began approximately in May 2023 and has been continuing unimpeded ever since. The identified abusers are from Guangxi, Wuhan and Shanghai to name a few (see https://x.com/s70706634/status/1720030679977566426?s=20).  Acts of torture carried out by the youth in China and presented on social media for gaining notoriety and fortune are totally against humanity and acceptable codes of conduct worldwide. We do NOT refer to those who bring such atrocities to light but those who perpetrate & execute the vile acts.

Psychologists the world over maintain that those who indulge in animal cruelty and torture escalate to human torture and murder.  These individuals are considered potential psychopaths and future serial killers (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12613433/) .

We believe the matter has reached such unacceptable levels of near epidemic proportions amongst the youth that your personal intervention is necessary to put a stop to what is barbaric, pure savagery, unbecoming of countries with rich histories such as yours.  These acts are reaching the world over, encouraging others to do the same.

Killing pet DOGS by dragging them from their homes is unacceptable the world over (see https://x.com/Kfkfkf_X/status/1716896725431156746?s=20). We find this latest culling of pet dogs from their homes a perplexing complication to the normally questionable treatment of dogs in China. Why the abusive behaviour of a child towards one dog which provoked it to bite the child (who recovered), has condemned ALL dogs to death by authorities, remains a mystery to the civilised world.

Killing of stray dogs by poisoning or bashing them around in public as a pass time and a way of releasing pent up anger & frustration is becoming the norm in China.

Cats and Dogs are pets and life’s companions with some being human helpers in farms, police force, the army and for those who have disabilities.  They rely on humans to look after them.  The largest study of its kind in Sweden has shown that having a cat or a dog can reduce coronary disease by over 30% (see https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-16118-6).

Cats & dogs are not meat, their bones do not provide cure for anything, they are not torture items and feel every blow and every torture act with great pain.

We all represent the countries we come from & our actions reflect upon our culture and background. Actions of these individuals is attracting all the wrong opinions.  People ridicule your countrymen and women (particularly the youth), are astounded at their depravity, are dismayed by their lack of humanity and due care for sentient beings which we have come to expect from civilised nations.

We, the international community, wish you to bring prosecution to the individuals who have posted acts of torture of animals on social websites (see some in the Reference list below). These acts are not ‘personal events’ or ‘cultural shows’, nor are they private acts of an individual.  They are presenting their torture to the world live.  These acts clearly indicate a diseased & troubled mind (see https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/social-sciences/cruelty-to-animals  Because these individuals have been allowed to continue unimpeded, the problem is becoming epidemic in China.  Before long, you will have catastrophic social issues which these people’s crimes have escalated.  Increasingly, people in other countries (Japan, USA & UK to name a few) are receiving these torture videos despite such acts being deemed illegal.

In fact, the overall brutality of Chinese towards all animals (see references below) has brought to light that it is time to bring in some regulation & laws that prohibit torturing animals.

Indeed, in the civilised world, such acts are criminal, and MUST be punished with the full force of the law.  If such laws do not exist in your country, we urge you to intervene and introduce such laws.

These acts are bringing disrepute to your country & are attracting all manner of derogatory comments regarding a culture that allows such acts to take place.  Do NOT become famous for abusing animals.  Maintain your reputation for retail goods, for technology & for electronics instead.

Mahatma Gandhi, a very wise man, once said “The GREATNESS of a nation and its MORAL PROGRESS can be judged by the way in which it treats its animals”.  Using these measures, and the current evidence available daily in social media, China falls remarkably short in terms of moral progress, does it not?

This petition also addresses the owners of the social media websites (particularly Telegram) that allow such animal tortures to be posted.  Again, we are not referring to those who bring such heinous acts to light but those who perform them. We ask you to err on the side of humanity. We urge ALL the social media involved (Facebook, Instagram, MOMO, YouTube, Telegram, Twitter, TikTok & others) to close the accounts of ALL those who perform such acts of torture online (for entertainment of like-minded individuals with potential mental deficiencies). Just because a nation does not have laws against brutality, does not make it alright to propagate the unacceptable acts.  Just as, universally, all child abuse is frowned upon, animal abuse should be frowned upon as well.  These acts are NOT ‘cultural events’ and are considered vile and heinous by ALL civilised individuals.

We thank you for your time and positive consideration of this petition.

Yours respectfully,

Dr Pantea Etessami
