When Mayor Greenberg campaigned for office, he promised real change. How can that possibly happen with people like Nicole George, who consistently voted against the rights of homeless people while on Metro Council, being appointed Deputy Mayor? She has supported many of the new ordinances that are calling homelessness “camping” and “trespassing” when on public property. These people are being fined $50-200 or given court dates that they cannot possibly get to so that they are then being in contempt and can be jailed. She is wasting resources on police who are being used to intimidate and arrest the houseless. Furthermore, she is moving people away from downtown where all of the resources are located. She is taking our most vulnerable population and depriving them of their resources and dignity. We must ask Mayor Greenberg to live up to his campaign promises of REAL change! It should not be a crime to be houseless in Louisville. This is not only unethical, but expensive and dangerous to our city that has been through enough suffering.
