WHEREAS Bill 96, An Act respecting French, the official and common language of Québec (Bill 96), was assented to on June 1, 2022;

WHEREAS various lawsuits have already been instituted challenging Bill 96;

WHEREAS twenty-three (23) municipalities having bilingual status, including, but not limited to, Côte Saint-Luc, Montreal West, Westmount and Hope Town (village in the Gaspe) have joined forces and on June 6, 2023 instituted proceedings against Quebec contesting various aspects of Bill 96; and

WHEREAS the Town of Hampstead, a municipality also having bilingual status, has refused to be part of the lawsuit. 

As such, we, the undersigned, residents of the Town of Hampstead, find it very wrong indeed that our Town did not participate with the aforementioned municipalities and, accordingly, ask that the necessary steps be taken by the Hampstead Town Council to reverse their decision and, to immediately join forces with the twenty-three (23) municipalities. 

CONSIDERANT QUE le projet de loi no 96, Loi sur la langue officielle et commune du Québec, le français (loi 96), a été sanctionné le 1er juin 2022; 

CONSIDERANT QUE des poursuites ont déjà été intentées contestant la loi  96;

CONSIDERANT QU’une alliance de vingt-trois (23) municipalités à statut bilingue, y compris, mais sans s'y limiter à, Côte-Saint-Luc, Montréal-Ouest, Westmount et Hope Town (village dans la Gaspésie) se sont associées et en date du 6 juin 2023, ont intenté une poursuite contre le Québec contestant divers aspects de la loi 96; et

CONSIDERANT QUE la Ville de Hampstead, une municipalité également ayant un statut bilingue, a refusé de faire partie de ladite poursuite.

En tant que tel, nous, soussignés, résidents de la Ville de Hampstead, trouvent très tort en effet que notre Ville n'ait pas participé avec les municipalités susmentionnées et, en conséquence, demandent que les démarches nécessaires soient entreprises par les conseillers de la Ville de Hampstead pour renverser leur décision et de se joindre immédiatement aux vingt-trois (23) municipalités.
