Airbnb has shown through various actions that they are complicit in the ongoing Uyghur Genocide in China.

Airbnb has contracts with the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), a paramilitary organization that answers to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which has been found responsible for committing acts of genocide such as forced sterilization, and incarcerating people in concentration camps. 

Dozens of listings on the Chinese version of Airbnb openly discriminate against Uyghurs, Tibetans, and other ethnic minorities. This is a clear violation of AirBnB’s policy against racial and ethnic discrimination. Even so, Airbnb continues to allow these listings on their website and is complicit in the racism and police harassment these groups continue to face daily in China. 

Airbnb is also sponsoring the 2022 Beijing Olympics, an event that will be used by the Chinese Communist Party to spread positive propaganda and distract from the fact that they are committing genocide. Not only is Airbnb contributing to the fanfare of the games, but Airbnb is assisting the CCP in the glorification of their regime, and subsequent denial of their horrific actions. 

Airbnb is vocal about its belief in “social responsibility” and has a duty to the public to do better. It is imperative that they do the following: 

1. Acknowledge the ongoing Uyghur Genocide in China.
2. Pull their sponsorship from the 2022 Olympic Games if they are to be held in Beijing. 

It is essential that Airbnb prove its commitment to human rights is more important than its commitment to profits.
