Hold Pakistan's Leaders Accountable for Deportation threat to Afghan Refugees
Hold Pakistan's Leaders Accountable for Deportation threat to Afghan Refugees
Why this petition matters
Over 1 million Afghan refugees who fled their country after the fall of the Republic to the Taliban have been targeted for forced repatriation by the current caretaker regime in Pakistan.
Many of those who are sheltering in Pakistan face the threat of persecution, detention, torture, and/or death should they be forcefully returned to Afghanistan. The Pakistani regime maintains that Afghans residing in the country constitute a threat to national security and must be returned to Afghanistan. While we recognize the right of Pakistan to provide security for its people, a draconian decision such as the one being implemented by Islamabad will uproot hundreds of thousands of innocent people who have no ties to extremism or terrorism and send them back to a place that is already reeling from a humanitarian and economic crisis. The decision also renders hundreds of thousands of Afghan female refugees voiceless and futureless.
We must act now to communicate to the caretaker regime in Pakistan that the course of action it intends to take will incur consequences. I call upon anyone interested in human rights, refugee rights, and basic humanity to sign this petition and tell the democratically elected governments of the world to sanction those responsible in the Pakistani regime for this inhumane and unnecessary act.
