Why this petition matters

The Downtown Norfolk Civic League (DNCL) is supporting Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney Ramin Fatehi in his effort to ensure a safer pedestrian experience for residents and visitors of Downtown Norfolk. Our district, known for its restaurants, entertainment venues, workplaces, museums, and frequented by cruise passengers, attracts people for its pedestrian-friendly atmosphere. Sometimes, All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) or off-road motorcycles operating recklessly on Granby Street and at times, on sidewalks, can deter from the pedestrian nature of the downtown area at best, and at worst, may be a safety concern for some residents and visitors.

We believe that allowing local governments in Virginia to pass ordinances giving police authority to seize and dispose of these vehicles will significantly reduce noise pollution and enhance safety measures in our district. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), ATVs were involved in 15% of all fatal accidents on public roads between 2007-2011. This statistic highlights how crucial it is for us to take action now.

By signing this petition you are supporting a safer Downtown Norfolk where pedestrians can enjoy their surroundings without fear or discomfort caused by illegally operated ATVs or off-road motorcycles. Please sign this petition today and help us make Downtown Norfolk safer and quieter place for everyone.
