The development of super-bugs has become an increasingly relevant matter in the community, as well as in the healthcare field. Often, I hear of people entering our hospitals and senior care facilities with completely unrelated health issues and later developing MRSA infections, which ultimately can become deadly. Healthcare professionals play a significant role in the development of  super-bugs and are given the tools to avoid bacteria becoming resistant. By mandating lab cultures to be performed prior to antibiotic treatment, we can avoid misdiagnosing the type of antibiotic and appropriately identify the bacteria.
