The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) holds our Friday Food Rescues every week, where we package extra goods from the City Eats Dining Hall. The ERC has been contributing to feeding the SF community through donations to Food Runners, a volunteer-based organization that supplies food distribution sites with excess meals from businesses, hospitals, etc. While we believe this initiative is a positive endeavor, it should feed the students that it was originally cooked for. Many students at SFSU are food-insecure -- 46.8% according to a 2019 study. Delivering the meals we recover directly to students could provide free, nutritious food to students every Saturday, while taking advantage of systems that are already in place.
