Why this petition matters

Started by Will Sims

It is time to Retire, Replace, or Completely Modify the Confederate Monuments in downtown Brandon (Rankin County), MS, nearby Jackson, MS, and throughout the State of Mississippi. We owe it to the citizens of Mississippi, especially the African American community in Brandon, MS (Rankin County) to begin the process of Racial Healing, after the sentencing of the 6 former corrupt and disgraced Sheriff Deputies.

The NAACP Rankin County Branch believes the Confederate Monuments set the tone for tolerance of racial indifference, and egregious Civil Rights Violations for days past, as well as present. This Month of March, 2024, is the beginning of a National Movement, for the local citizens of Brandon (Rankin County), MS to begin the process of Racial Healing. On a National level, the NAACP Rankin County, MS Branch is asking Professional and Collegiate Athletes with Mississippi ties, as well as Military Veterans, to support our petition and our cause for the removal of all Confederate Monuments in our wonderful State.

We are asking the well known artist and performers who journey to Brandon, MS and perform at the wonderful Amphitheater, to not turn a blind eye or ignore the Confederate Monument which holds its post in the middle of town, but speak out to encourage our city leaders to make a change, for the sake of all citizens who spend their money for ticket purchase. Signing this petition would be a glorious start.

We are seeking support from those corporations who seek to do continued or new business endeavors in Brandon (Rankin County), MS, to show solidarity for all citizens of Rankin County, and encourage local leaders to remove this symbol of hate and racism. Most notably, to the Powers - That - Be at AMAZON Corporation. In reference to the recent announcement of a $Billion dollar deal in the neighboring County of Madison, MS, it is our hope that you consider investment in improving Mississippi's social justice reform for Human Rights, more specifically - the removal of symbols of racism and hatred, such as Mississippi Confederate Monuments.

Symbols of hate and racism deserve no platform in today's society, especially not displayed in the center of a beautiful town like Brandon, Mississippi. Rankin County and Counties in Mississippi have long been known for egregious Civil Rights violations, this petition is part of the ongoing efforts of the NAACP Rankin County Branch's mission, to bring about Civil Rights & Social Justice.

NAACP - Rankin County Branch Is On The Move in 2024.
