Why this petition matters

Started by Sean Baker

The cancellation of "Me and My Shadow" is a devastating blow to animation enthusiasts worldwide who crave fresh and captivating narratives. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for imaginative storytelling in the realm of animation. According to Statista, animated films alone raked in an astonishing $1.5 billion in box office revenue in North America in 2019 (Statista).

This statistic underscores the immense potential for success that could be achieved by reviving "Me and My Shadow". Furthermore, Dreamworks Animation has always been at the forefront of bringing extraordinary tales to the silver screen.

Just think about the timeless classics like Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, which not only achieved commercial triumph but also garnered critical acclaim, it could be another example of that alongside being a tribute to the legendary art of traditional animation mixed with the use of computer generated imagery to create a film that celebrates the innovations and achievements within the history and art of animation itself

By abandoning projects like "Me and My Shadow", Dreamworks Animation is denying audiences the opportunity to witness groundbreaking content. In light of these compelling facts, we urge Dreamworks Animation to reconsider their decision and breathe life back into "Me and My Shadow". Let us restore originality to mainstream animation! If you share our passion, we kindly ask you to sign this petition.

With how the world of mainstream animation lacks any kind of distinctive animation that harkens back to the earlier years of the medium, this film can not only be a love letter to the early days of cel animation but also a tribute to how combining it with the modern animation style of computer animation can bring new life to a wider world of creative possibilities that have so far been unexplored and provide new opportunities for future and present audiences alike.

With the success of films like Into the Spider Verse,   Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,  The Bad Guys and etc show there is a viable chance for a film like this to be released now with a greater number of box office success and critical acclaim as audiences desire for a return to the more fantastic and less realistic animation style that make this revival of a film of this sort the perfect place for Dreamworks to continue the momentum built with some of the aforementioned films mentioned.
