Help us pressure the Guyana Government to start substantial works in building a modern highway from Lethem in Region 9 to Linden in Region 10 before the end of 2022.

For far too long, successive governments have made empty promises to the people of Guyana about paving a highway from Lethem to Linden. At present, the people of Region 9 are cut off from the city and access to many conveniences and facilities such as medical facilities, education, markets, and much more. 

The trip by road using the bus service costs a whooping $12,000 GYD ($60 USD) per person and is a grueling 15-hour drive through rugged terrain. Not everyone can handle the pressure of taking the trail. What's worse is the cost of an air ticket from Lethem to the city - a whooping $30,000 GYD or more. 

On a regular basis, patients from Region 9 are air dashed to the city for medical care. Many of those patients have to find their way back to Region 9 on their own account. In many cases, Region 9 patients had to travel the grueling trail with punishing injuries. The people of Region 9 deserve better.

With a modern highway connecting Lethem to Linden, the travel time can be cut in half, and the ride can be much smoother. 

Guyana is poised to earn more than 1 billion US dollars in oil revenues alone by the end of 2022. That figure is estimated to double by the end of 2023. We are now officially an oil rich nation. It is the people of Guyana who should determine how that money is spent. And thousands of Guyanese are desperate for a highway to be built connecting Georgetown to Region 9.

Building the Georgetown to Region 9 highway will open new windows of opportunities for all Guyanese and supercharge the country's economy. It will result in significantly more Brazilian tourists visiting Georgetown. 

So far, there has been lots of talk and very little action. The Guyana government needs to stop dragging its foot and start taking action on this project.
