I am deeply disturbed by the content of Kristi Noem's book, in which she openly brags about animal cruelty and neglecting her responsibilities as a pet owner. As an individual who believes that how we treat animals is a reflection of our character, I find it unacceptable that such content is being promoted on Amazon - a platform used by millions worldwide.

Cricket, a puppy that Noem intended to use as a pheasant-hunting dog, had her life cut short at just 14 months. She was shot in the face by Noem for first not performing as a bird hunting dog, and then after being irresponsibly let loose near chickens, performing too well. According to the governor, Cricket didn’t so much hunt as have “the time of her life” chasing birds and going “out of her mind with excitement.” And for that puppy behavior, she was unceremoniously executed by Kristi Noem.

Animal cruelty is not just morally wrong; it is also illegal in many forms in all 50 states - including the state Kristi governs. What she openly brags about doing to this puppy was, in no uncertain terms, illegal. But she didn’t stop there. She continues on, detailing her killing of a goat she also purchased without any reasonable due diligence, in a disturbing account wherein the first shot was misplaced. This should be horrifying to anyone. Yet, this book seems to glorify such behavior and even encourages readers to view it as acceptable.

Furthermore, research has consistently shown a correlation between animal abuse and other forms of violence. According to the National Link Coalition, people who harm animals are five times more likely to harm humans. By allowing this book on their platform, Amazon indirectly supports these harmful behaviors and allows an abuser to profit from their story of committing abuse.

It's time for us to take action against this blatant promotion of animal cruelty. We urge Amazon not only as consumers but also as advocates for ethical treatment of animals - please discontinue sales of Kristi Noem’s book immediately! Sign this petition if you agree that no form of animal cruelty should be tolerated, much less promoted.
