Why this petition matters

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens, business professionals, and residents of Australia, united in our shared belief in fairness, justice, and the value of entrepreneurship and investment in our country's economic growth. We write this petition to urgently request the attention and action of the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship regarding the processing delays faced by thousands of individuals who have applied for the Subclass 188 visa under the Business Innovation and Investment stream.

It has come to our attention that many dedicated and hardworking applicants submitted their visa applications with great hope and anticipation in 2020, seeking the opportunity to contribute their skills, resources, and vision to Australia. At the time of application, they were informed of an approximate processing time of 6-8 months.

Regrettably, these applicants have been waiting for over three years, enduring prolonged processing delays that have put their lives and business ventures on hold. The uncertainty and anxiety they face have significant repercussions on their professional and personal aspirations.

Furthermore, we are deeply concerned about the predicament of the applicants' children, who were included in the visa applications. Many of these children were under 23 years of age at the time of application, and due to the protracted processing time, they have now surpassed the age eligibility threshold. As a result, even if the parents' visas are granted, their children will be ineligible, causing heartache and distress to these families.

We find it disheartening that while countries around the world actively compete to attract and retain talented entrepreneurs and investors, the processing of business visas in Australia has been suspended since 2022 under the current labor government.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, urgently call upon the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship to address this pressing issue. We appeal for an immediate review and resolution of the backlog of Subclass 188 visa applications, prioritizing those who have been waiting patiently for an extended period.

By expediting the processing of these applications, Australia will not only provide much-needed relief to the affected individuals and families but also demonstrate our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, attracting investment, and promoting economic prosperity.

We believe that our collective voice can make a difference. As concerned citizens and stakeholders in Australia's future, we request the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship to take immediate action to resolve this matter promptly and fairly.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent appeal. We trust that you will consider the welfare and aspirations of these deserving individuals and their families.

Sincerely,
