Why this petition matters

Started by James Pauley

An open letter to Apple and Universal Music.

For the past four years Beatles fans have been treated to multi-disc deluxe box sets of 'St Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', 'The Beatles (White Album)', Abbey Road' and 'Let it Be'.

One of the highlights of these releases has been the inclusion of  a Blu-ray Audio disc containing high resolution audio versions of the albums, including the original mixes, the Giles Martin remixes and Dolby Surround/Dolby Atmos mixes.

The Beatles are the biggest band in the history of music and deserve to have their entire catalogue available in the finest quality audio that only a high resolution audio format can provide.

Many fans had resigned themselves to the fact that the only way were going to get these high resolution audio mixes was via and expensive box set released once a year and we were willing to go with that and support Apple/Universal with these high priced box sets.

However it now appears that this will no longer be the case.   The upcoming deluxe box set release of 'Revolver' will be the first of these multi-disc box sets NOT to contain a Blu-ray audio disc.

Instead fans will be expected to pay for downloads of the high resolution mixes.

As Beatles fans and consumers we find this unacceptable for two reasons; firstly, we resent having to pay for something that came as standard in the previous box set releases, while the price still remains as high as those previous sets and secondly this means that we can no longer own the high resolution versions of this album on a PHYSICAL DISC format.

We demand that the high resolution audio mixes of 'Revolver' should be  included in the price of this release and on the Blu-ray physical disc format.

So, the message that all signatories to this petition wish to send out to Apple/Universal is...

No Blu-ray?  NO SALE!
