Why this petition matters

Started by Gray Utstott

In December of 1975 Donald Hall (80) among several others were indicted for murder. Over the following two years an extensive investigation and lengthy court proceedings would take place that would ultimately end with a judgment of life sentences for all involved except those who would willingly testify.

The damning evidence that would cause the conviction of Donald Hall would not end up being a weapon, not fingerprints, no footage, no admittance but the testimony of one man who faced the same charges Rusty Miller. In-fact in the 1000+ page police report the investigators, officers, and forensics would all go on to say that there was no evidence of Donald Halls presence at the scene of the crime with the exception of testimony.

Since the year 1977 all of the men found guilty of this crime have admitted to their involvement with the exception of one man, Donald Hall who has maintained his statement of innocence of the crime of murder. For 46 years Donald Hall has remained incarcerated in the State of Michigan, soon to be competing for the title of the longest standing inmate in the Sate of Michigan, a state that has no death penalty but is one of only 5 states compared to 46 others that does not have a capacity/limit on the sentence of life (25-30 years). So in Michigan, this means that a sentence of life is indeed a death penalty but one that could even span a century.. Even thought the MDOC guidelines for sentencing scored Donald Hall at 30 years.

Since Donald Halls incarceration into a system designed for reformation he has completed every single class, merit and course that has been available to him leaving him to date with hundreds of pages of certificates and credits of accommodation to speak for the success of his reform. Also notable to mention that Donald Hall has not had a single infraction in over 30 years and has been heralded as the “perfect and model inmate”. Imagine the dedication of spending 46 years of your life, accepting accountability and responsibility to put forth the willpower to do something like this while knowing your innocence but still having to spend your life behind bars.

We tell you the story, a small portion of it anyway to ask for your help and support. In due time Donald Hall will seek a re-trail based on new evidence and testimony. Today we hold in our hand two court certified affidavits. One that includes a testimony of the very man who spoke against Donald Hall in order for the prosecution to solidify their case that states of his coercion and purger due to immense pressure from the police and other officials. Let us say that one more time.. The same man who claimed to be an eyewitness THE eyewitness of the case stating in court that it was all a lie. The other from an eyewitness who has finally worked up the courage to come forward with details that will further exonerate Donald Hall speaking truthfully and plainly of his innocence with details of the case that were only ever made available to the involved officials showing true accreditation to his word to say that he witnessed the murders and Donald Hall was not the one who committed the crime.

Donald Hall has sat for 46 years for a crime that he did not commit while other men admitted to being the ones responsible. In this time frame his incarceration has costed the tax payers of Michigan $1,660,830.00. Donald Hall survives his wife whom he married but never got to spend a day with outside of the walls of a Michigan penitentiary. Imagine this, your whole marriage and never being able to spend a night with your significant other, hug one of your 6 children, 15 grand children, or 6 great grand children all because you would not admit to and purger yourself to blame someone else for a crime that you did not commit.

Now with struggling health, arterial blockages, COVID diagnoses and other significant health concerns, for 46 years Donald Hall has worked to pay a debt to society that society decided was his to have regardless of the truth. It is time for him to come home to live out the few remaining years he has left compared to an entire lifetime that he has spent behind bars. His debt is paid, and with your help and signature of petition this will be added to the long list of documents that will be supplied to support his case which will then include a hearty petition, letters of release recommendations and statements from multiple of the following: Wardens, Magistrates, Supreme Court Judges, Supreme Court Officials, Police Officers, Prison Guards, Clergy, Business Men and Business Women, FBI Agents, Prosecutors, Lawyers, Family, Friends, Children, Grand Children, Professional Services, Psychologists, and more. Donald Hall must be released!
