The United Nation’s charter states that it is an intergovernmental organization aiming to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations.

Keywords are; peace, security, friendly, cooperation, harmonizing.

The UN is not exactly an awesome success in regard to those objectives.

The only way to achieve those objectives would be to put an end to war. Or, at least, put something in place that could effectively thwart a nation’s aggressive intentions toward another nation.

For example, Principle IV of the Nuremberg Principles states; The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him.

That Principle should apply to, or be updated to apply to, military personnel who are ordered to attack another nation and go kill people just because that is what the leadership wants.

So, if the troops do not believe that the aggression they are ordered to commit is justified they will be obligated and empowered to refuse to comply with that order.

Also, if an attack on another nation does take place and it is found to be unjustified by the United Nations every other nation will contribute to the defense of the nation under siege with equipment, supplies and troops until the aggressor is vanquished.

Once the aggression is resolved the military leaders along with the head of state that ordered the attack will be held accountable.
