I am writing this petition with a heavy heart and an urgent plea. I have been contacted by numerous individuals in Gaza who are desperately trying to escape the ongoing violence. They are reaching out, begging for help, their voices echoing with fear and desperation. Yet, they find themselves trapped due to financial constraints imposed by Egypt's policy of charging them hefty fees to cross the border.

This practice is taking advantage of a horrific situation - people fleeing genocide are being forced to pay for their safety. It is deeply unjust that those seeking refuge from such atrocities should be further burdened financially in their quest for survival.

According to Human Rights Watch, over 2 million Palestinians live in Gaza under harsh conditions with limited access to clean water, electricity or medical care. The current crisis has only exacerbated these hardships (Human Rights Watch). The added financial strain of crossing into Egypt is a barrier that many cannot overcome.

The world cannot stand by while civilians bear the brunt of geopolitical conflicts and policies that exploit their vulnerability. We must amplify these voices crying out from Gaza and demand an end to this exploitative practice.
