#LetThemRide: Support Gazan Paracyclists to represent Palestine for the first time ever at Paralympics

UPDATE: Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah, along with their technical team, have secured visas for Belgium, ensuring their participation in the upcoming Paracycling World Cup race on Friday, 2nd May and Sunday 5th May. Additionally, Mohammed Asfour's Schengen visa has been approved by Belgium, allowing him to compete in both the Belgian and Italian races.

Now, we desperately need the Italian authorities to issue Italian visas to Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah, and their technical team before 11th May, allowing them to participate in the forthcoming Italian Paracycling World Cup race. This will increase the likelihood of them participating at the Paralympics in August so that Sunbirds’ dream of representing Palestine on the world stage will be reached!

We are the Gaza Sunbirds, Palestine’s only paracycling team. Due to Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip, we have had to stop training and, instead, have been distributing food and supplies to our communities. Today, we are closer than ever to our dream of representing Palestine in the 2024 Paralympic Games - it would be the first time ever for paracyclists! Founder and captain, Alaa al-Dali and team member Mohammed Asfour have been evacuated alongside independent athlete Waheed Rabah. We hope they will form part of the national Paralympic team sponsored by the Gaza Sunbirds achieving Palestinian representation and recognition on the world sporting stage. There are two qualifying races in Belgium and Italy in the coming weeks. Thankfully and due, in part, to the amazing support of our fans and signatories of this petition, the athletes and their technical team have been granted visas to compete in the first. This means they are still in the running for entering the Paralympics. If the Italian authorities do not confirm visas for them all, however, they will not be allowed to participate in the second qualifying race and their chances of reaching the Paralympics will be reduced. The Gaza Sunbirds’ story begins with Alaa al-Dali in 2018 who was, at the time, a top pro-cyclist in Palestine. Whilst attending a peaceful Palestinian rally along the Gaza-Israel border - he was shot by an Israeli sniper in the leg leading to it being surgically removed and, what he calls, the amputation of his dream. The following year, he rewrote his personal dream of competing individually in overseas races into a collective project using sport to empower others after trauma. Assembling 19 team mates who had sustained similar life-altering injuries from Israeli attacks, he launched the Gaza Sunbirds with the dream of representing their country at the 2024 Paralympics. Years of training despite challenges like ongoing bombing and food shortages came to a halt last October in the face of Israel’s war on Gaza. Instead, we used our resources to distribute aid to people across the Strip, organising over $110,000 USD worth and risking our lives for our communities’ right to survive. These efforts have inspired people around the world to support us with two global campaigns: Athletes for Palestine - which has already rallied over 115 sign ups from the sporting industry around our demands for a dignified existence for Palestinians and the Great Ride of Return - a synchronised solidarity cycle series which has brought together thousands in 60+ cities internationally.

Alaa, Mohammed and Waheed’s invitation to Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Paracycling World Cup races in Ostend, Belgium 2-5th May and Maniago, Italy 16-19th May marks the first of its kind. Never before has a Palestinian paracycling delegation been invited to participate just as there has never been a team at the Paralympics which these events will allow them to qualify for. The threat of being denied the right to compete internationally due to rejected visas, however, is all too common for us. Despite previously being asked to race in events in France, Italy and Switzerland, our sporting ambitions have repeatedly been obstructed as governments fear we won’t return to Gaza and instead seek asylum in Europe. This is an experience shared across the community and as a result, the Palestinian National Paracycling Federation is composed of athletes who have never been able to train or compete on a road longer than 33 km, the longest road in the besieged Gaza Strip. We believe that, regardless of where they come from, no one should be held back from pursuing what they love in sports. It's a world that is so important to us because on the global stage, it’s the only place where Palestine is recognised officially as a country.

Belgium and Italy are currently not allowing online applications for visas from the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli aggressions. As a result, our athletes, wider team and network have had to spend a huge amount of resources to travel to Egypt to apply in person from there, which is far from simple considering the nature of the attacks in Gaza. Having arrived in Cairo before the others, Mohammed is now waiting for a decision on his Belgian visa, Alaa and Waheed have started the process with both Belgium and Italy. The trip has been funded through Amos Trust and supported by ACS Italia.

WE’RE ASKING FOR:

• Italian authorities to grant Italian visas to Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah, and their technical team before May 11th, enabling them to participate in the upcoming Italian Paracycling World Cup race
• Competing in the the Belgian and Italian cup is only possible with these visas and isare a crucial steps in keeping our dream alive of representing Palestine in the Paris 2024 Paralympics. If visas aren't granted in time,  they cannot compete in this race and will have a lower likelihood of qualifying to compete in Paris.

WE RECOGNISE THAT: 

The time for processing these visa requests is short, but we ask the Italian authorities be understanding of the stakes involved and the immense obstacles and delays that our athletes have already overcome on their journey to represent Palestine on the world stage

WE STAND FOR:

• We reject the discrimination which athletes from Palestine, and specifically from Gaza, have had to deal with when it comes to visa applications, just because of where they come from. Palestinian athletes, like most athletes around the world, strive to compete abroad and return to their homeland to empower their own sporting communities.
• We appeal to the spirit of the Paralympics Games, whose ultimate goal is promoting inclusion and rehabilitation specifically for athletes coming from war zones or who live with disabilities because of conflict. For European governments to continue preventing athletes from competing internationally on the basis of their geographical or economic background is utterly shameful and runs counter to the equal opportunities which should be ever present in sports.

Wij zijn de Gaza Sunbirds, het enige paracyclingteam van Palestina. Vanwege de aanval van Israël op de Gazastrook moesten we stoppen met trainen en in plaats daarvan hebben we voedsel en benodigdheden

aan onze gemeenschappen uitgedeeld. Vandaag zijn we dichter dan ooit bij onze droom om Palestina te vertegenwoordigen op de Paralympische Spelen van 2024 - het zou de eerste keer zijn voor paracyclisten! Oprichter en kapitein, Alaa al-Dali en teamlid Mohammed Asfour zijn samen met onafhankelijk atleet Waheed Rabah geëvacueerd. We hopen dat zij deel zullen uitmaken van het nationale Paralympische team gesponsord door de Gaza Sunbirds, waarmee Palestijnse vertegenwoordiging en erkenning op het wereldsportpodium wordt bereikt. Het verhaal van de Gaza Sunbirds begint met Alaa al-Dali in 2018, die destijds een top professionele wielrenner was in Palestina. Terwijl hij een vreedzame Palestijnse rally langs de Gaza-Israël grens bijwoonde - werd hij in zijn been geschoten door een Israëlische sluipschutter, wat leidde tot de amputatie van zijn been en, wat hij noemt, de amputatie van zijn droom. Het volgende jaar herschreef hij zijn persoonlijke droom van individueel concurreren in buitenlandse wedstrijden naar een collectief project dat sport gebruikt om anderen na trauma te empoweren. Hij verzamelde 19 teamgenoten die soortgelijke levensveranderende verwondingen hadden opgelopen door Israëlische aanvallen, en lanceerde de Gaza Sunbirds met de droom hun land te vertegenwoordigen op de Paralympics van 2024. Jaren van training ondanks uitdagingen zoals aanhoudende bombardementen en voedseltekorten kwamen vorig oktober tot stilstand vanwege Israëls oorlog op Gaza. In plaats daarvan gebruikten we onze middelen om hulp te verdelen aan mensen over de hele strook, waarbij we meer dan $110,000 USD organiseerden en ons leven riskeerden voor het recht van onze gemeenschappen om te overleven. Deze inspanningen hebben mensen over de hele wereld geïnspireerd om ons te ondersteunen met twee wereldwijde campagnes: Athletes for Palestine - die al meer dan 115 aanmeldingen heeft verzameld van de sportindustrie rond onze eisen voor een waardig bestaan voor Palestijnen en de  Great Ride of Return - een gesynchroniseerde solidaire fietstocht die duizenden mensen in meer dan 60 steden internationaal heeft samengebracht.

De uitnodiging van Alaa, Mohammed en Waheed voor de Paracycling World Cup-races van de Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in Oostende, België van 2-5 mei en Maniago, Italië van 16-19 mei is een primeur. Nog nooit is een Palestijnse paracycling-delegatie uitgenodigd om deel te nemen, net zoals er nog nooit een team op de Paralympics is geweest waarvoor deze evenementen hen zouden kwalificeren. De dreiging om het recht om internationaal te concurreren te worden ontzegd vanwege afgewezen visa is echter al te gewoon voor ons. Ondanks eerdere uitnodigingen om te racen in Frankrijk, Italië en Zwitserland, zijn onze sportieve ambities herhaaldelijk belemmerd omdat regeringen vrezen dat we niet naar Gaza zullen terugkeren en in plaats daarvan asiel zullen zoeken in Europa. Dit is een ervaring die binnen de gemeenschap wordt gedeeld en als gevolg daarvan bestaat de Palestijnse Nationale Paracycling Federatie uit atleten die nooit hebben kunnen trainen of concurreren op een weg langer dan 33 km, de langste weg in de belegerde Gazastrook. Wij geloven dat, ongeacht waar ze vandaan komen, niemand moet worden tegengehouden om na te streven waar ze van houden in sport. Het is een wereld die zo belangrijk voor ons is omdat het op het wereldtoneel de enige plaats is waar Palestina officieel als land wordt erkend.

België en Italië staan momenteel geen online aanvragen voor visa vanuit de Gazastrook toe vanwege de aanhoudende Israëlische agressies. Als gevolg hiervan hebben onze atleten, breder team en netwerk een enorme hoeveelheid middelen moeten besteden om naar Egypte te reizen om daar persoonlijk te solliciteren, wat verre van eenvoudig is gezien de aard van de aanvallen in Gaza. Mohammed, die voor de anderen in Caïro is aangekomen, wacht nu op een beslissing over zijn Belgische visa, Alaa en Waheed zijn het proces met zowel België als Italië gestart. De reis is gefinancierd door Amos Trust en ondersteund door ACS Italia.

WIJ VRAGEN:

• Dat de Belgische autoriteiten snel een visum verlenen aan Mohammed Asfour zodat hij op tijd in Oostende kan zijn om deel te nemen aan de Belgische Paracycling World Cup-race. Dit zou geldig moeten zijn voor de hele maand mei, zodat hij ook naar Italië kan reizen en deelnemen aan de Italiaanse Paracycling World Cup-race in Maniago.
• Dat de Belgische en Italiaanse autoriteiten zo snel mogelijk een visumafspraak bevestigen voor Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah en de rest van hun technische team, evenals toestemming om deel te nemen aan de Belgische en Italiaanse Paracycling World Cup-races

Deze stappen zijn cruciaal om onze droom levend te houden om Palestina te vertegenwoordigen op de Paralympics van Parijs 2024. Als de visa niet op tijd worden verleend voor deze World Cup-races, zullen zij niet kunnen concurreren in Parijs.

WIJ ERKENNEN DAT:

De tijd om deze visumaanvragen te verwerken is kort, maar wij vragen de Italiaanse en Belgische autoriteiten om begrip voor de betrokken belangen en de immense obstakels op het pad van onze atleten om hun ambitie na te streven.

WIJ STAAN VOOR:

• Wij verwerpen de discriminatie waarmee atleten uit Palestina, en specifiek uit Gaza, te maken hebben gehad bij visumaanvragen, alleen vanwege waar ze vandaan komen. Palestijnse atleten, net als de meeste atleten wereldwijd, streven ernaar in het buitenland te concurreren en terug te keren naar hun thuisland om hun eigen sportgemeenschappen te versterken.
• Wij doen een beroep op de geest van de Paralympische Spelen, waarvan het uiteindelijke doel is inclusie en rehabilitatie te bevorderen, specifiek voor atleten uit oorlogsgebieden of die leven met handicaps vanwege conflicten. Dat Europese regeringen atleten blijven verhinderen internationaal te concurreren op basis van hun geografische of economische achtergrond is ronduit schandalig en druist in tegen de gelijke kansen die altijd aanwezig zouden moeten zijn in de sport.

• Teken - deze petitie die oproept aan de Belgische en Italiaanse autoriteiten om visa te verlenen aan Gaza Sunbirds atleten zodat zij kunnen concurreren in races die hen kwalificeren voor de Paralympics waar zij hun droom kunnen realiseren om de eerste Palestijnse delegatie ooit te zijn, volledig samengesteld uit atleten en technisch ondersteuningsteam uit Gaza.

Nous sommes les Gaza Sunbirds, la seule équipe de paracyclistes en Palestine. En raison de l'attaque d'Israël sur la bande de Gaza, nous avons dû interrompre nos entraînements et se charger de la distribution de nourriture et de matériel à notre communauté. Aujourd'hui, notre rêve de représenter la Palestine aux Jeux paralympiques de 2024 est plus proche que jamais - ce serait une première pour les paracyclistes ! Le fondateur et capitaine, Alaa al-Dali, et le membre de l'équipe Mohammed Asfour ont été évacués aux côtés de l'athlète indépendant Waheed Rabah. Nous espérons qu'ils rejoindront l'équipe paralympique nationale parrainée par les Gaza Sunbirds, permettant à la Palestine de se faire représenter et reconnaître sur la scène sportive mondiale. Mais avant cela, ils doivent participer à deux courses de qualification en Belgique et en Italie. Si des visas ne leur sont pas accordés, ainsi qu'à leur équipe technique, ils ne pourront pas concourir aux Paralympiques. L'histoire des Gaza Sunbirds commence avec Alaa al-Dali en 2018, qui était alors un cycliste professionnel de premier plan en Palestine. Alors qu'il assistait à une manifestation pacifique le long de la frontière entre Gaza et Israël, il a été touché à la jambe par un tireur d'élite israélien, ce qui a entraîné son amputation chirurgicale et, comme il le dit, l'amputation de son rêve. L'année suivante, il a transformé son rêve personnel de compétition individuelle dans des courses à l'étranger en un projet collectif utilisant le sport pour autonomiser les autres après un traumatisme. Il a réuni 19 coéquipiers ayant subi des blessures similaires lors des attaques israéliennes et a lancé les Gaza Sunbirds avec le rêve de représenter leur pays aux Jeux paralympiques de 2024. Malgré la réalité des bombardements continus et les pénuries alimentaires, des années d'entraînement ont pris fin en octobre dernier face à la guerre d'Israël contre Gaza. À la place, nous avons utilisé nos ressources pour distribuer de l'aide aux personnes à Gaza, organisant pour plus de 110 000 dollars américains et risquant nos vies pour le droit de nos communautés à survivre. Ces efforts ont inspiré des personnes du monde entier à nous soutenir avec deux campagnes mondiales : Athletes for Palestine - qui a déjà rallié plus de 115 signatures de l'industrie sportive autour de nos demandes pour une existence digne pour les Palestiniens - et la Great Ride of Return - une série de cycles de solidarité synchronisés qui a réuni des milliers de personnes dans plus de 60 villes à l'international.

L'invitation d'Alaa, Mohammed et Waheed aux courses de la Coupe du monde de paracyclisme de l'Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) à Ostende, Belgique du 2 au 5 mai, et à Maniago, Italie du 16 au 19 mai, marque une première du genre. Jamais auparavant une délégation de paracyclisme palestinienne n'avait été invitée à participer, tout comme il n'y avait jamais eu d'équipe aux Paralympiques pour lesquels ces événements leur permettaient de se qualifier. La menace de se voir refuser le droit de concourir à l'étranger en raison de visas refusés est cependant trop courante pour nous. Malgré avoir été précédemment invités à concourir en France, en Italie et en Suisse, nos ambitions sportives ont été systématiquement entravées car les gouvernements craignent que nous ne retournions pas à Gaza et cherchions plutôt l'asile en Europe. Cette expérience est partagée dans toute la communauté et, en conséquence, la Fédération palestinienne de paracyclisme est composée d'athlètes qui n'ont jamais pu s'entraîner ou concourir sur une route de plus de 33 km, la plus longue route dans la bande de Gaza assiégée. Nous croyons que, quelle que soit leur origine, personne ne devrait être empêché de poursuivre sa passion pour le sport. C'est un monde qui nous tient à cœur parce que la scène mondiale est le seul endroit où la Palestine est officiellement reconnue comme un pays.

La Belgique et l'Italie n'autorisent actuellement pas les demandes de visas en ligne en provenance de la bande de Gaza en raison des agressions israéliennes en cours. Par conséquent, nos athlètes, leur équipe élargie et leur réseau ont dû dépenser une énorme quantité de ressources pour se rendre en Égypte afin d'y faire une demande en personne, ce qui n'est pas simple compte tenu de la nature des attaques à Gaza. Ayant été arrivé au Caire avant les autres, Mohammed attend maintenant une décision sur son visa belge, Alaa et Waheed ont commencé le processus avec la Belgique et l'Italie. Le voyage a été financé par Amos Trust et soutenu par ACS Italia.

NOUS DEMANDONS :

• Aux autorités belges d'accorder rapidement un visa à Mohammed Asfour afin qu'il puisse rejoindre Ostende à temps pour participer à la course de la Coupe du monde de paracyclisme belge. Cela devrait être valable pour tout le mois de mai afin qu'il puisse également se rendre en Italie et participer à la course de la Coupe du monde de paracyclisme italienne à Maniago.
• Aux autorités belges et italiennes de confirmer un rendez-vous pour le visa pour Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah et le reste de leur équipe technique dès que possible, ainsi que d’accorder l'autorisation de participer aux courses de la Coupe du monde de paracyclisme belge et italienne. Ces étapes sont cruciales pour maintenir notre rêve de représenter la Palestine aux Jeux paralympiques de Paris 2024 en vie. Si les visas ne sont pas accordés à temps pour ces courses de la Coupe du monde, ils ne pourront pas concourir à Paris.

NOUS RECONNAISSONS QUE :

Le délai de traitement de ces demandes de visa est court, mais nous demandons aux autorités italiennes et belges de comprendre les enjeux et les obstacles immenses sur le chemin de nos athlètes pour poursuivre leur ambition.

NOUS NOUS BATTONS POUR :

• Nous rejetons la discrimination à laquelle les athlètes de Palestine, et spécifiquement de Gaza, ont dû faire face en matière de demandes de visa, simplement en raison de leur origine. Les athlètes palestiniens, comme la plupart des athlètes dans le monde, s'efforcent de concourir à l'étranger et de retourner dans leur patrie pour renforcer leurs propres communautés sportives.
• Nous en appelons à l'esprit des Jeux paralympiques, dont le but ultime est de promouvoir l'inclusion et la réadaptation spécifiquement pour les athlètes venant de zones de guerre ou vivant avec des handicaps dus aux conflits. Pour les gouvernements européens, continuer à empêcher les athlètes de concourir à l'international sur la base de leur origine géographique ou économique est totalement honteux et va à l'encontre des opportunités égales qui devraient être présentes dans le sport.

UPDATES: Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah, insieme al loro team tecnico, hanno ottenuto i visti per il Belgio, garantendo la loro partecipazione alla prossima gara di Coppa del Mondo di Paraciclismo il giovedì e il venerdì, 2 e 3 maggio. Inoltre, il visto Schengen di Mohammed Asfour è stato approvato dal Belgio, permettendogli di competere sia nelle gare belghe che italiane.

In questo modo, il sogno dei Sunbirds di rappresentare la Palestina sul palcoscenico mondiale sarà realizzato!

 

Siamo i Gaza Sunbirds, l'unico team di paraciclismo della Palestina.

A causa dell'attacco israeliano alla Striscia di Gaza, abbiamo dovuto sospendere gli allenamenti e dedicarci alla distribuzione di cibo e forniture alle nostre comunità. Nonostante le difficoltà, ci avviciniamo sempre di più al nostro sogno di rappresentare la Palestina ai Giochi Paralimpici del 2024: sarebbe un traguardo storico per il paraciclismo!

Tre atleti sono stati evacuati con successo hanno ottenuto i visti per il Belgio e sono pronti per competere ad Ostende. Devono prima partecipare a due gare di qualificazione in Belgio e Italia nelle prossime settimane. Grazie, in parte, al sorprendente sostegno dei nostri fan e dei firmatari di questa petizione, gli atleti e il loro team tecnico hanno ottenuto i visti per partecipare alla prima gara di qualificazione. Ciò significa che sono ancora in lizza per accedere alle Paralimpiadi. Tuttavia, se le autorità italiane non confermano i visti per tutti loro, non potranno partecipare alla seconda gara di qualificazione e le loro possibilità di raggiungere le Paralimpiadi saranno ridotte. Attualmente in Egitto, il fondatore e capitano Alaa al-Dali, insieme al membro del team Mohammed Asfour e all'atleta Waheed Rabah, non potranno competere né alle gare di qualificazione né alle Paralimpiadi se non verranno concessi loro e al team tecnico i visti necessari.

La storia dei Gaza Sunbirds ha inizio con Alaa al-Dali, uno dei tre atleti che oggi sperano di partecipare alle prossime gare di qualificazione, ex ciclista professionista, atleta di punta di Palestina e leader del team Gaza Sunbirds. Mentre partecipava a una manifestazione pacifica lungo il confine Gaza-Israele nel 2018,  viene colpito da un cecchino israeliano alla gamba, subisce un’amputazione e, come lui stesso dice, anche la perdita del suo sogno.

L'anno successivo, Alaa riscrive il suo sogno personale di competere come singolo in competizioni internazionali, dando vita ad un progetto collettivo, che utilizza lo sport per dare forza agli altri dopo un trauma. Riunendo altri 19 compagni di squadra che avevano subito lesioni simili a causa degli attacchi israeliani, ha fondato i Gaza Sunbirds con l'ambizione di rappresentare il Paese ai Giochi Paralimpici del 2024. Anni di duro allenamento, nonostante le sfide come i bombardamenti in corso e le carestie, sono stati interrotti lo scorso ottobre a causa della guerra. Invece di arrendersi, abbiamo utilizzato le nostre risorse per distribuire aiuti alle persone lungo la Striscia, organizzando una raccolta di oltre $110.000 USD e mettendo a rischio le nostre vite per difendere il diritto delle nostre comunità a sopravvivere. Questi sforzi hanno ispirato persone in tutto il mondo a sostenere la nostra causa attraverso due campagne globali: Athletes for Palestine - che ha già ottenuto oltre 115 adesioni dall'industria sportiva in risposta alle nostre richieste per una vita dignitosa per i palestinesi - e Great Ride of Return - una serie di eventi di ciclismo di solidarietà che ha coinvolto migliaia di persone in oltre 60 città internazionali.

L'invito di Alaa, Mohammed e Waheed alle gare di Coppa del Mondo di Paraciclismo dell'Unione Ciclistica Internazionale (UCI) a Ostenda, Belgio, dal 2 al 5 maggio, e a Maniago, Italia, dal 16 al 19 maggio, segna un momento senza precedenti. Mai prima d'ora una delegazione di paraciclisti palestinesi è stata invitata a partecipare, proprio come mai prima d'ora c'è stato un team ai Giochi Paralimpici per cui questi eventi permetteranno loro di qualificarsi.

Tuttavia, la minaccia di essere privati del diritto di competere a livello internazionale a causa del rifiuto dei visti è purtroppo una situazione troppo comune per noi. Nonostante in passato ci fosse stato chiesto di gareggiare in eventi in Francia, Italia e Svezia, le nostre ambizioni sportive sono state ripetutamente ostacolate dai governi, che temono non faremo ritorno a Gaza cercando asilo in Europa.

In ragione di queste riserve e dinieghi reiterati, la Federazione Palestinese di Paraciclismo Nazionale è composta da atleti che non sono mai stati in grado di allenarsi o gareggiare su una strada più lunga di 33 km, la strada più lunga nella Striscia di Gaza sotto assedio. Crediamo che nessuno debba essere ostacolato nel perseguire e praticare lo sport che ama, indipendentemente dalla propria provenienza e origine. Lo sport riveste un'importanza primaria per noi poiché, a livello mondiale, rappresenta l'unico spazio dove la Palestina è ufficialmente riconosciuta come uno Paese.

Attualmente, il Belgio e l'Italia non consentono di applicare per l’ottenimento dei visti online dalla Striscia di Gaza, a causa delle aggressioni israeliane in corso. Di conseguenza, i nostri atleti, il più ampio team e l’intero network,  hanno dovuto spendere una quantità enorme di risorse per recarsi in Egitto e presentare domanda di persona da lì; questo non è stato affatto semplice, considerando la natura degli attacchi a Gaza. Alaa Mohammed e Waheed hanno ottenuto i visti per il Belgio e hanno avviato l’iter per l’ottenimento del visto sia con l'Italia. Questo viaggio è stato finanziato attraverso Amos Trust e supportato da ACS Italia.

CHIEDIAMO:

Alle autorità italiane di concedere i visti ad Alaa Al-Dali, Waheed Rabah e al loro team tecnico entro l'11 maggio, per consentire loro di partecipare alla prossima gara di Coppa del Mondo di Paraciclismo in Italia.

Competire nella Coppa del Belgio e d'Italia è possibile solo con questi visti ed è un passo cruciale per mantenere vivo il nostro sogno di rappresentare la Palestina alle Paralimpiadi di Parigi 2024. Se i visti non vengono concessi in tempo, non potranno partecipare a queste gare della Coppa del Mondo e potrebbero avere una minore probabilità di qualificarsi per competere a Parigi.

RICONOSCIAMO CHE:

Il tempo per elaborare queste richieste di visto è breve, ma chiediamo alle autorità italiane di comprendere le sfide e gli enormi ostacoli che i nostri atleti devono affrontare nel perseguire le proprie ambizioni.

SOSTENIAMO:

La ferma condanna della discriminazione subita dagli atleti palestinesi, soprattutto quelli provenienti da Gaza, nel processo di richiesta dei visti, basata unicamente sulla loro provenienza geografica. Come molti altri atleti nel mondo, i palestinesi lottano per competere all'estero e poi ritornare nelle proprie comunità per ispirare e migliorare il panorama sportivo locale.
L’appello allo spirito dei Giochi Paralimpici, il cui scopo principale è promuovere l'inclusione e la riabilitazione, specialmente per gli atleti provenienti da zone di conflitto o con disabilità. È profondamente vergognoso e contrario al principio di pari opportunità che dovrebbe caratterizzare lo sport, il costante rifiuto dei governi europei di consentire agli atleti palestinesi di competere a livello internazionale, basandosi sul loro contesto geografico o economico.
