This is the third year that the children of Ontario have had their education interrupted. Children are falling behind emotionally, mentally and academically. While virtual schooling may be beneficially for some children, it is detrimental to the majority of children in Ontario.  

   Children’s mental health is on a steady decline. In-person schooling offers more than just an education. Children learn how to interact with their peers, self regulate, how to behave outside of the home, how to cope with real life challenges, added physical activity opportunities, social support and so much more. Being behind a screen all day long is no way for children to live. 

   We understand that there are some children who are immune compromised or are in close contact with someone who is. We believe the virtual schooling should still be an option for those individuals. We also believe that there should be an in-person option available for those who struggle with online learning. 

   Parents are also feeling the effects of virtual schooling. Many parents can not go to work, which causes a whole other slew of problems.

   We are at a point in this pandemic where we know what to expect and how to deal with it. It’s time to stop delaying the reality that we need to learn to live with Covid-19, not hide from it.
