Inclusion of the SDGs in Educational Curriculums Globally.
Inclusion of the SDGs in Educational Curriculums Globally.
Why this petition matters
Do you know that according to the international surveys on the SDGs, by the OECD Development Communication Network (DevCom) carried out on June 2017, it was reported that between 28 - 45% of people have heard the goals, and across 24 countries, only around 1 in 100 citizens know the SDGs very well, while 25% say they know the name only. www.oecd.org/dev/dev.com
Being that 2017 is 3 years ago, there is every possibility that the records have changed but not with a huge difference. My twin sister and I conducted a survey lately to find out how many countries included the SDGs in their educational curriculum and how many people have the knowledge about it. We found out over 80% of our survey was negative. This pushed us to create a change by writing this petition.
The deadline for achieving the global goals by 2050 would be achieved if all hands are on deck irrespective of age, because we all have a role to play in this. The aggregate of actions taken, which includes; the inclusion of the SDGs in our educational curriculum in all levels (primary, secondary, tertiary) globally would help make positive impacts in establishing the roots of the goals. Young people need to be instilled with the consciousness of the existence of the SDGs to be able to work in line with hitting the targets on or before the deadline. However, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations once said, "The hopes of the world rest on young people."
In conclusion, the SDGs should be included in all levels of our educational curriculum globally to make a headway in achieving the global goals.
