Rename the Iowa-Nebraska rivalry to "the Corn Bowl"
Since joining the Big Ten in 2011, Nebraska and Iowa fans have cultivated mutual disdain for each other to the extent that it has become one of the most intense rivalries in the country. Despite this organic rivalry developing between the two universities, the two continue to play for one of the more inorganic/forced trophies in all of college football.
The Heroes Game, while well intentioned, is overly corporate to the extent it feels inauthentic in college athletics. Some of the most iconic rivalries are accompanied by signature trophies: Paul Bunyan's Axe (Minnesota-Wisconsin) and the Floyd of Rosedale (Minnesota-Iowa) are just two signature trophies already existing in the Big Ten and are instantly recognizable. Meanwhile, the few fans could describe what the Heroes Trophy actually looks like.
Accordingly, this petition would support the retirement of the Heroes Game and adoption of "the Corn Bowl" - a simple but distinct name that will bring instantly recognizable branding power to an increasingly dynamic rivalry. The Corn Bowl should be officially adopted and submissions for the appearance of the trophy should be submitted to the universities for approval.
