Why this petition matters

Update May 2024. Many AAHA Accredited Animal Hospitals perform declawing on two and four paws. AAHA claims to be all about the best care in veterinary medicine. Here's our latest story about AAHA and declawing. https://citythekitty.org/its-2024-why-is-aaha-org-still-allowing-declawing-in-their-accredited-animal-hospitals/

They put the welfare of their own pocketbooks and their declawing veterinarian's pocketbooks over the welfare of cats by allowing declawing in their hospitals.

Here's our short story that might explain why we believe that AAHA puts profits over the welfare of cats. Why does AAHA put profits over cats?

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2020. The folks at American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) sicced their lawyers on CitytheKitty.org to get us to take down lots of screenshots with information and their logo from our stories about how they allow declawing in their accredited animal hospitals. Here's our press release about this. AAHA Sicced Their Lawyers on City the Kitty Nonprofit

Here's our Oct. 2021 story on how AAHA veterinarians fight to keep this animal cruelty legal by trying to stop the anti-declawing bills and ordinances. AAHA Vets Fight To Keep Cruelty Legal. AAHA won't stop them.

Here's our story that must have upset AAHA about how their 2020 Animal Hospital of the year declaws cats. AAHA's 2020 Hospital of the Year Declaws Cats

Please send a polite email to AAHA and ask them to do the right thing and stop allowing declawing in their AAHA Accredited Animal Hospitals. Email- aaha@aaha.org

Dear American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA),

(Photo of Teeger who was declawed at an AAHA hospital along with his 2 siblings. The vets at this AAHA hospital talked the owners out of the humane alternatives.  All three cats had horrific complications and had to have their paws amputated. More about this story- http://citythekitty.org/3-kitties-declaw-story/ )

We, the undersigned, ask you (AAHA) to no longer allow declawing in your standard of excellence hospitals. Please make a strict and enforced policy against declawing in your ACCREDITED ANIMAL HOSPITALS. Here's AAHA's 2021 declawing position statement.  AAHA says they are against declawing and it's bad for cats but they still allow it in their hospitals. AAHA's declawing statement

If you ban declawing in your hospitals, you will be protecting the interest of cats instead of protecting the interest of declawing veterinarians at AAHA Accredited Animal Hospitals.  Here's an AAHA Accredited Animal Hospital in VA that advertises declawing, tail docking, and ear cropping on their website. AAHA Animal Hospital In Virginia Says They Provide A “Safe and Effective” Cat Declaw Surgery, Tail Docking, and Ear Cropping

You say on your website that your accredited hospitals have higher standards, yet why do you allow declawing in them?

VCA, Banfield, Mission Veterinary Partners, Fear Free Pets, and American Association of Feline Practitioners have ALL banned declawing in their animal hospitals but AAHA is standing alone and allowing this barbaric cat cruelty because they don't want to lose the membership fees from their declawing animal hospitals.
Just think.
AAHA is possibly receiving money from membership dues from their declawing hospitals that was made from DECLAWING innocent and healthy cats.
Doesn't get much lower than this folks.
And AAHA lied to us when they sent many of us a reply saying, "We strive to uphold standards of veterinary excellence, but we do not instruct veterinarians how to practice medicine."
.
Hey AAHA, Just a little reminder. You told your veterinarians in 2013 that they can't perform nonanesthetic dentals fyi. Here's your news release about it. AAHA told their vets they can't perform nonanesthetic dentals

You say that keeping pets healthy is their number 1 priority yet many of your AAHA accredited hospitals declaw cats.

Declawing is below the standard of care in veterinary medicine!

Declawing is the amputation of a cat's last toe bone. It is performed routinely in AAHA hospitals across the country despite your position statement against it and despite it having absolutely no benefit to the cat.

Declawing is below the standard of care.

Cats deserve better.

It's time for you to be strong. We will celebrate your bravery in leading the way to a better world for cats.

Also please go to CitytheKitty.org and the PawProject.org to read about the facts about declawing and their crusade to end declawing. They are also on facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
