Why this petition matters

Started by McKenzye Anker

As hardworking residents, property owners and farmers of Tillamook County, we are deeply concerned about the detrimental impacts of FEMA’s Pre-Implementation Compliance Measures for the National Flood Insurance Plan. Our farms, homes, business, livelihoods, and heritage are under serious risk with this proposed compliance measure. It threatens not only to drastically drop our property values but also to limit our ability to redevelop, improve infrastructure and amenities for our homes and businesses.

Our county, rich in agriculture, will suffer significantly. Farmers will find it extremely hard to repair outdated facilities. The potential repercussions of FEMA’s plan, such as the proposed 170-foot buffer requirement from any water source, could render vast tracts of prime farmland idle. At a time when we have the responsibility to sustainably increase our food production to meet the demands of an ever-growing population, we cannot afford to lose our farmland and our county cannot afford the domino effect that FEMA's plan will cause.

We strongly object to these measures that threaten the cultural, economic, and lifestyle fabric of our community. It's high time we voiced our concerns and protected our rights. Therefore, we push our elected officials and their staff to halt all attempts to comply with these inadequately considered plans. We request your urgent response to help us retain control over local regulations that directly impact us and outside of our community. Sign this petition to stand with us and reject the FEMA Pre-Implementation Compliance measures for the National Flood Insurance Plan in Tillamook County.

Sincerely,

Tillamook County Farm Bureau
