AFL Father Son Rules - Stop Victorian Bias
AFL Father Son Rules - Stop Victorian Bias
Why this petition matters
Today Andrew Dillon - AFL CEO elect - has raised the prospect of AFL clubs having to bid first round picks to gain access to Father sons in the draft if they are bidded by other clubs in that part of the draft.
"But the League is set to continue tying up any loose ends within its bidding process, including whether clubs can match first-round bids on father-son prospects with a host of later selections."
This petition calls for AFL fans alike to prevent this from happening. Particularly non-Victorian club fans.
For too long Victorian clubs have had the maximum benefit of this rule which has seen 14 of the past 16 flags go to Victorian clubs. The Father son rule inequality playing a part in this.
In recent memory Victorian clubs like the Bulldogs (Darcy), Collingwood (Moore, Daicos, Daicos) have benefited strongly from the existing rule.
Now in 2024 there is the possibility of a non-Victorian club - Adelaide - benefiting through Crows leading goalkicker Scott Welsh's son Tyler becoming available.
Does it not seem incredibly convenient the AFL is discussing changing the rules once the Victorian teams have benefited?
Why was this not an issue prior to those players becoming available?
