We respectfully request to have the Avalon Dive Park at Casino Point renamed, to honor the contributions that Dr. Bill Bushing has made to our knowledge of the flora and fauna contained within the dive park and surrounding waters.

Over his lifetime, Dr. Bill has worked tirelessly to study the local ecology and communicate his findings to the public. He has worked on many projects that have led to greater understanding and conservation of our underwater resources. This in turn has benefited the City of Avalon immeasurably by drawing in divers and tourists to the island. 

The title of this petition suggests a name of "Dr. Bill Bushing Avalon Dive Park." Variations of this name would be acceptable providing that his name and title be included.

We understand there may be some resistance to renaming the dive park. In lieu of renaming it, we would like to see some other form or recognition such as a educational display board highlighting Dr. Bill's research (as suggested by a council member). 

Let us honor this humble man through this simple gesture that will help preserve his rich legacy.
