Currently,  Commonwealth citizens who have served the UK Armed Forces (like the Gurkhas) can apply to stay in the UK when they leave the services. However, they must pay the visa application fee that costs £2,389 per person.

Wives and families have to pay this also, meaning it could cost in excess of £10,000 for an average family to apply to stay. 

The BBC says "In 2020, there were 5,110 Commonwealth citizens serving in the armed forces. Every year around 500 leave and those who choose to stay in the UK must pay the fee.

Those who have served the in the UK’s armed forces with loyalty should be allowed to stay without paying this charge.
