Why this petition matters

Hollis from inception has been a stable primarily single-family residential neighborhood with beautiful historic homes dating back before the 1920’s.  Homeowners purchased homes as one-family dwellings according to the zoning at the time.

  1.  The current plans for multi-unit projects have failed to acquire the vote of the people for rezoning in accordance with city, state and federal regulations.
  2. The creators of multifamily units and multipurpose buildings do not inform the community about the projects as required by law.
  3. These multi-unit structures have the potential to burden our community, depreciate our property value and put our health and public safety at significant risk.

WE THE RESIDENTS OF HOLLIS OPPOSE ANY AND ALL MULTI-FAMILY BUILDING PROJECTS ON BUSY HOLLIS AVENUE IN THE AREA EXTENDING FROM 99TH AVENUE TO 104TH AVENUE and WE REQUEST THAT THE DEVELOPERS CEASE AND DESIST THE DEMOLITION OF 192-43 HOLLIS, on the grounds that:

The community’s voice was not obtained regarding re-zoning changes.

No safety measures were established in regard to the impact of demolition on the foundations of the existing homes. We need to know how they plan to demolish the house!

The owners of the properties adjoining the proposed demolition site, 192-39 and 192-47 Hollis Avenue, were not informed of the demolition or the planned changes to the property as required by law.

A multifamily structure will disrupt the aesthetic value of the neighborhood; will obstruct the uniformity of the single-family structures that currently exist and will create an eyesore that will ultimately devalue all our homes.

No environmental reports were presented to the community pertaining to carcinogens and utility services. How will this impact the community in terms of utility costs, service and safety?

No traffic reports or reporting on the foreseeable impact of having a multifamily home in the middle of the block on a busy main street were presented or discussed with the community.

This project will negatively impact the safety of children within the community as vehicular and foot traffic will increase significantly.

No design review process took away our voice in determining the future of our neighborhood.

Let’s stop these developers from destroying the beauty and rich history of our resilient community!
