● Did you know? Nuclear Energy Policy to be Announced at G7 Summit
According to media reports(*1) , the Japanese government is discussing with other countries to emphasize the importance and necessity of nuclear power in the agreed text of the "G7 Sapporo Ministerial Conference on Climate, Energy and Environment"(*2), which is part of the "G7 Hiroshima Summit".
The Japanese government is also trying to obtain the consent of the G7 major industrialized countries(*4) for the ocean discharge of treated water containing radioactivity from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant site, following the IAEA's announcement(*3).

● We are firmly opposed to promoting nuclear power plants and allowing the spread of radioactively contaminated water and soil.
The United Kingdom, France, the United States and Japan are promoting nuclear power plants. In contrast, the German government has expressed its opposition to the text of the agreement. We welcome and support it.
We also urge the other G7 countries (*4) not to include in the text of the agreement the promotion of nuclear power plants and the acceptance of the discharge of contaminated water into the ocean.

● April 15 may be a very contrasting day, a day that will show the way forward.
The G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting will be held on April 15. This is the historic day when all nuclear power plants in Germany will be finally shut down. Meanwhile, in Japan, where the worst nuclear accident in history occurred, the exact opposite announcement will be made. And the G7 summit will be held in the A-bombed city of Hiroshima.... What a sad and ironic reality.

● We know that we have very little time left, but we know that by working together, we can be a very powerful force.
・Please tell your friends and spread the word on social networking sites.
・Signing the petition is one way. But take it one step further and send an email to the G7 representatives(*7) asking them not to support plans to further pollute our oceans, the source of life. (*5)(*6)
