Die documenta hat sich in ihrer fast 70jährigen Geschichte zur weltweit bedeutendsten Ausstellung moderner Kunst entwickelt. Sie schafft alle fünf Jahre den Raum für die künstlerische Sicht auf die zentralen Fragen der globalen Welt. Das war und ist nur möglich durch den völligen Verzicht der Politik, auf künstlerische Fragen Einfluss zu nehmen, und durch die strikte Wahrung der Kunstfreiheit. Diese findet ihre Grenze im Recht, das von Gerichten verbindlich festgestellt wird, nicht in Entschließungen eines Parlamentes, nicht in der Meinung von Politiker*innen, nicht in Staatsräson und auch nicht - wie jetzt bei der documenta vorgesehen - in erzwungenen Selbstverpflichtungen der Kurator*innen und Künstler*innen.

Diese Petition fordert, dass die Kunstfreiheit, wie sie in Artikel 5 des Grundgesetzes verankert ist, weiterhin gewahrt bleibt und nicht durch politische oder andere externe Einflüsse eingeschränkt wird. 

Dafür setzen wir uns von der Initiative #standwithdocumenta mit aller Kraft ein!

#standwithdocumenta - Save the freedom of art!

In its almost 70-year history, documenta has developed into the world's most important exhibition of modern art. Every five years, it creates a space for artistic perspectives on the central issues of the global world. This was and is only possible thanks to the complete renunciation of politics from influencing artistic issues and the strict preservation of artistic freedom. This finds its limits in the law, which is bindingly established by the courts, not in parliamentary resolutions, not in the opinions of politicians, not in reasons of state and not - as is now planned for documenta - in enforced voluntary commitments by curators and artists.

This petition demands that artistic freedom, as enshrined in Article 5 of the German Constitution, continues to be preserved and is not restricted by political or other external influences. 

This is what we at the #standwithdocumenta initiative are campaigning for with all our might!
