1995, Ada, Oklahoma: Daniel Furr, a 15 year old boy goes missing. 4 days later, a body is found in the local brick quarry. Upon first exam, and even in the autopsy report, it seems very unlikely that the body is that of Daniel Furr. The ME says the body is 5' 4", around 100lbs, shoulder length black hair, and possibly that of a 25 year old male. Daniel was 15, short dark brown hair, 5' 10", 150lbs. The body was also beyond decomp than it should have been if it were to be Daniel. And despite this, the body is somehow identified as Daniel with dental records that were 4 years old. When the family wanted to exhume in 2008, the local sheriff's dept miraculously found DNA for comparison, even though the ME had stated no viable samples were available, therefore, again, it was identified as Daniel through those samples and no exhumation took place. There's so much more to this case than meets the eye.

The point of this petition is not only to bring awareness to this case, but to plead with the new Pontotoc County District 22 DA and his investigators to hear us and reopen this case and investigate it properly. And right now, I want to take a moment to speak directly to that DA, Erik Johnson:

We understand that you just took office in January and you have a lot on your plate. You have a lot of changes you want to make and we can see that you are already on your way to making them. We understand that you probably have a lot of things that may take priority over a 28 year old cold case. But Daniel Furr was only 15 years old. The questions we have raised in our episode covering his case should not be ignored. Contradictory reports, witnesses never spoken to, some not followed up on. A body that may not be Daniel’s at all. His family has gone without definitives and peace for 28 years. Not only that, but there is a possibility that another man occupies Daniel's resting place. Another man with a mother and father, possible sisters and brothers, people who loved him - whoever he is - who probably want answers just as much as Daniel’s family. Their loved one simply disappeared, never to be heard from again. If you would start a new investigation with exhumation and simply determine who lies below that headstone first, many hearts can start to heal. We beg you to find funding for this. We implore you to restart the investigation and work on it diligently until you get answers. Daniel’s family was told they would have to exhume the body out of pocket, and we WILL find a way to help Daniel’s family raise the funds to exhume and get their samples to a lab like Othram. That is a promise WE can make. But you have the opportunity to be this family's hero in finding what lies beneath and in who killed Daniel Furr, and possibly so much more. What promises can YOU make? 28 years is far too long. Please don’t let it become 29.
