Gravel Mine & Rock Crusher on Jackson Mountain in the middle of planned bike trail system?
Why this petition matters
The San Juan National Forest and Archuleta County have partnered to develop a Gravel Mine and Rock Crusher operation on Jackson Mountain right in the middle of an extensive, planned Mountain Bike Trail System! The Trail System will offer dozens of trails for families, beginners and advanced riders with development planned for 2023.
A 30 vehicle parking and staging area for cyclists / forest users is planned and this access is expected to share forest road(s) with fully loaded Large Dump Trucks (~ 20 per day) that weigh > 25,000Lbs!
Forest users, visitors and locals safety is our primary concern. In addition to vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian safety, there is significant dust expected - Both from crusher operations as well as dump truck traffic that may be inhalable particulate matter! Noise, dirt and wildlife impact are of concern also. As we understand, this Gravel Mine is on a FAST TRACK and the USFS has JUST RELEASED the public comment period! LEARN MORE HERE www.stopthejacksonmtnpit.com We recognize that the USFS and Archuleta County wish to lower their costs for gravel (currently being trucked in from SW Colorado near Arboles), but believe there are safer, better, alternate locations they could explore. We plan to submit this petition to the San Juan National Forest representatives as well as the Archuleta County Board of Commissioners. Please sign this petition opposing this Gravel Mine / Rock Crusher location and voice your opinion! (See website on how to voice concerns and sign up for auto-updates)
