The human rights situation in China has gone from bad to worse. Yet, the Winter Olympic Games are to take place in Beijing in February 2022. Allianz Group is supporting the Games as a sponsor and insurance provider under the slogan "Behind You For What's Ahead."

We have been campaigning for self-determination in Tibet since 1989. Since then we find that the human rights situation in Tibet has deteriorated constantly. Tibetans living in Germany tell us that they escaped their country to be able to freely live their culture and religion. They chose a country like Germany to be able to stand up for human rights in Tibet because back home they would face prison and torture if they did. Even contacting their families in Tibet from abroad poses a great risk.

The crimes of the Chinese regime against Tibetans and other oppressed groups must not be concealed! China is not a suitable venue for the Olympic Games: therefore, join us in demanding that the Allianz Group immediately withdraw as a sponsor of the Beijing Winter Olympics!

Tibet was transformed into a closed-off police state after the 2008 Summer Olympics and is now listed alongside Syria as the most unfree region in the world in terms of civil and political freedoms. Tibetans are not able to move freely, nor is anyone able to provide independent reporting on the ground. Over 155 Tibetans have self-immolated in protest since 2009 because any kind of protest in Tibet is immediately crushed by Chinese authorities.

In East Turkestan (Xinjiang), more than one million Uyghurs are detained in internment camps, women are raped and forcibly sterilized. Some governments already speak of genocide.

The systematic destruction of culture and language in Tibet, East Turkestan (Xinjiang) and Southern Mongolia already begins in childhood – the CCP is systematically trying to uproot "minorities" from their own culture, even to “control” their thoughts.

No other country is arresting as many journalists as China. Chinese human rights activists, democracy supporters and religious groups are exposed to the constant danger of arbitrary detention, torture and forced disappearance.

Especially since the enforcement of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, it should have been clear that China is not an appropriate venue for the Games. Violating international law, it has resulted in waves of arrests of activists and members of the democracy movement.
