The on-hand cases for 189/190/489/491 visa applications are more than 50,000. Some of them are pending for more than 36 months, and new applications are being piled up.

Most of the visa applicants who were affected by s48 bar are offshore, and cannot come to Australia without an exemption. Travel exemption for bringing visa holders are mostly refused. Sadly, most of visa applicants' bridging visas have either expired already or is expiring soon. People's career, financial commitments and future plans have been significantly affected due to this status quo.

The Government can end this crisis by speeding up the decisions on the backlogs.
