I look at the National Film Registry and see representation of the entire history of film; nevertheless, I see no representation of the internet culture that has dominated video/film in the last 25 years. Therefore, through this petition, I want Charlie the Unicorn, a viral internet video hit from the early days of YouTube, to receive its rightful recognition. Released on YouTube in 2005, it garnered millions of views and an array of fan merchandise. This film highlights the humor and the freedom that permeates internet creativity. Yet none of this vibrant culture is currently recognized in the National Film Registry.

Inducting Charlie the Unicorn will demonstrate an understanding of the profound impact that internet culture has had on video/film for a quarter of a century. The cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance of Charlie the Unicorn makes it more than deserving of a place in the National Film Registry.
