Why this petition matters

Started by Mary DiBenedetti

There is an insane amount of students and friends that have came to me telling me about how their teachers have sexualized them and made them leave class because their clothes were “too distracting”. My friend recently told me about how a teacher tried to dress code her for wearing leggings to school. Another friend for having a tank top on with a cardigan. Another friend got dress coded while she was in the middle of a test and the teacher said she was “disrupting class”. It’s almost like these teachers are actually trying to find a reason to dress code you. Those were only examples of people, I’m pretty sure I could conjure up a few more but I just want to get to my point. Teachers are sexualizing female TEENAGE students, telling that they are disrupting class while the teachers would be the ones to disrupt a student’s learning by telling them to leave a classroom to go change. Some teachers body shame and tell the students that they are dressing for attention. Never have I ever heard a student tell anyone that their outfit was distracting or that they were only doing it for attention, it has only been teachers and yet no one is doing anything about it. So I’m starting a petition, to try and do something about it, so we can learn in peace without being judged. Teachers should keep their horrid opinion to themselves and stop trying to make teenage girls feel bad about themselves. Also I’m not saying that all of the teachers are doing this, it is just the majority of them. Also I am not saying that there is any disrespect towards them, this is about their disrespect towards us as women in the school. Also if you guys are comfortable with sharing stories you had with a teacher here, could you comment it so I could use them as examples for explaining my reasoning behind all of this.
