Increase speed limit on Northbourne Ave/London Circuit
Increase speed limit on Northbourne Ave/London Circuit
Why this petition matters
Slashing the speed limit on two popular Canberra roads had led to a windfall of almost $6 million for the Australian Capital Territory Government in just one month alone.
According to The Canberra Times, 18,437 fines and infringement notices were handed out in the first three weeks of July to drivers caught by fixed speed cameras going northbound at the intersections of Northbourne Avenue/Barry Drive, southbound on Northbourne Avenue/London Circuit and westbound at Barry Drive/Marcus Clarke Street.
The ACT Government has been making just under $1.6m a week from fines from the local community.
This is nothing but a cash grab during uncertain times. While families and small businesses in Canberra are doing it tough due to the extended lockdowns the Gov is raking it in with cruel and excessive fines.
If you or someone you love has been hit by the ACT Government revenue-making fines sign this petition today - the speed limit should be returned to 60km as it was previously.
