Gas-powered Leaf Blowers (GPLBs) are a massive contributor to local air pollution and are a serious threat to public health. They destroy insect and animal habitats, degrade topsoil and are an unnecessary menace. 

A half hour of GPLB use produces as much hydrocarbon emissions as a Ford Raptor driving 3887 miles (this pollution is dumped into your yard).

Volatile Organic Carbons (VOCs) such as Benzene (emitted by GPLBs) cause Acute Myeloid Leukemia in children and adults. A GPLB emits 498 times as much VOCs as the average large car.

GPLBs emit 49 times as much particulate matter (P.M. 2.5) as a large car. One microgram increase in P.M. 2.5 concentration is associated with an 8% increase in COVID-related death rates.

We need to ban GPLBs now. They are not necessary and are extremely hazardous to human health - including the health of our community and the health of those most at risk - children and workers. 

We demand that the Board of Trustees pass a ban on GPLBs in Hastings on Hudson by the last day of the school year - June 23rd 2022.
