URGENT CALL TO DEFRA: LET US ADOPT RESCUE DOGS FROM UKRAINE!

We wish to request DEFRA urgently to waiver the requirement of blood antibody Rabies test for pets from UKRAINE temporarily, as has already been done by Poland and some other EU countries.

Due to the horrendous aggressive act by Russia in Ukraine people need to leave their homes, volunteers need to leave the rescue dog shelters to save their children from shelling and bombing. A huge human catastrophe threat to Ukraine means shelter pets are remaining without care, home pets are being abandoned. All of them will appear on the streets due to worries it will delay them in a safe quick route out of Ukraine.

To prevent this Poland and a few other EU countries are allowing pets to come to Europe without paperwork and blood antibody Rabies test due to it being absolutely not possible to make blood antibody Rabies test
in Ukraine now: a few approved laboratories, who could make it are in Kiev and are now closed, the test means a few months waiting before the dogs are able to travel. This makes it absolutely impossible for dogs from Ukraine to travel to the UK whether they be a pet or a rescue.

Us British people are proud to be called a nation of animal lovers. Thousands of British people wish to support UKRAINE including the desire to adopt a rescue/abandoned pet.

There is NO requirement of blood antibody Rabies test for pets from RUSSIA and BELARUS. Why are pets from Ukraine being discriminated? The risk of Rabies in Ukraine according to official statistics is absolutely no more than in Russia or Belarus.

URGENT CALL TO DEFRA: please introduce at least a temporary waiver of the requirement of blood antibody Rabies test for pets from UKRAINE. If you support Ukraine as according to UK governments declaration: please do something to help yourself.
