Why this petition matters

Started by Hrithik Bagga

As a concerned citizen and frequent visitor of Bramalea City Centre (BCC) in Brampton, ON, I am deeply troubled by the proposed redevelopment plan for the former Sears unit. The mall could utilize this space more effectively, much like what Mississauga’s Erin Mills Town Centre did with their old Sears store which was dividing it into multiple businesses and mall space. The current proposal to build condos will only exacerbate the already challenging traffic situation around BCC.

Brampton is a rapidly growing city with only one good indoor mall left due to the impending demolition of Shoppers World Brampton. This makes BCC not just a shopping destination but also an essential community hub for many residents and businesses. The former Sears unit presents an enormous opportunity for improvement and enhancement of our beloved BCC.

Moreover, according to Statistics Canada data from 2016, Brampton's population has grown by 13% over five years - far outpacing national growth rates (Statistics Canada). With such rapid growth comes increased demand for public spaces and amenities that cater to diverse needs.

The City of Brampton and Morguard should consider these factors and aim towards creating a vibrant communal space that can accommodate this growing demand while preserving the character and functionality of our cherished mall.

I urge you to reconsider this redevelopment plan and explore alternatives that would better serve our community's needs without worsening traffic conditions or compromising on available public spaces. This empty building screams for a opportunity for the mall. Please sign this petition if you share these concerns about preserving BCC as an integral part of our community life in Brampton!
