Why this petition matters

PLEASE HELP SAVE WIMBLEDON PARK JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY!

We desperately need your support!

The AELTC has refused to provide access to a small amount of land to enable the Junior Golf Academy to continue operating.  As a result, it has been left with nowhere for its members to learn and play golf in Wimbledon and Merton from January next year.

The AELTC should be particularly aware of the challenges that continue to face grass roots sport in the U.K. and, given its profile, should be a champion for all sport within its own community. This is especially so for an activity like golf which, like tennis, traditionally has high barriers to entry for most children, particularly those in cities or from lower income backgrounds.  We hope they can be persuaded to reconsider and help promote and maintain the diverse access the Academy provides.

Background:

The junior academy at Wimbledon Park started in 2014 with a handful of juniors. Today there are 170 participants.

We are extremely proud of the academy and all who have taken part over these past 8 years. It has been incredibly successful, bringing a lot of fun and building friendship and a wonderful community spirit.

Community support:

Since 2015 we have been involved with Merton Sports partnership, offering free tuition in primary state schools.

Over 1,000 children per year get some insight into Golf and some of these are part of our junior academy to this day.

We are a diverse Academy welcoming ALL children!

Academy success:

As a club our juniors are the current Kingston and Surrey champions.

With our schools program we have steered Merton to win the London youth games in trigolf for 5 tournaments in a row.

Please support us as we try to save our wonderful Golf Academy.
