Why this petition matters

We, the concerned citizens and advocates for disability awareness in Alberta, join together in support of the Alberta Disability Awareness In Action (ADAIA) #StillEssentialCampaign.

We firmly believe in promoting inclusivity and empowering individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. As part of this mission, we are petitioning The Community and Social Services Minister, Jason Nixon and the government of Alberta to implement a 10% wage increase for Community Disability Support Workers.

Community Disability Support Workers play a pivotal role in our society, providing crucial care and support to individuals with disabilities. Their dedication and compassion are instrumental in empowering those they serve to overcome challenges and participate fully in our community. However, we are deeply concerned about the financial hardships faced by many of these caregivers due to inadequate compensation.

While the government has taken steps to recognize the importance of these caregivers this past December 2022, we believe that another 10% wage increase is essential to ensure fair and equitable remuneration for their invaluable work. Adequate compensation not only recognizes the significance of their contributions but also helps retain skilled professionals in this vital field and elevates the quality of care and services provided.

By signing this petition, we call upon The Community and Social Services Minister, Jason Nixon and the government of Alberta to give earnest consideration to our request for a 10% wage increase for Community Disability Support Workers. This wage increase will not only support the financial well-being of these caregivers but also demonstrate the government's commitment to creating an inclusive and compassionate Alberta.

It's disheartening to hear about the continuous staffing crisis in Alberta's Community Disability Services and the lack of wage increase for workers since 2014 until this 2022, where we were previously asking for a 25% increase and only got 10% in December 2022. It's crucial for the government to take immediate action and properly compensate these workers for their valuable contributions. Supporting the provincial campaign for a 10% wage increase is an important step in addressing this crisis. Encouraging everyone involved, including Community Disability Service Workers, self-advocates, and families/guardians, to send their letters to the provided contacts, including their MLA, can help amplify the message and advocate for positive change.

Join us in supporting the Alberta Disability Awareness In Action Still Essential Campaign and advocating for a fair wage increase for our Community Disability Support Workers. Together, let us work towards building a society where every individual's contributions are valued, and all members of our community can thrive.

Sign the petition and share it today and be a part of positive change for our caregivers and the individuals they support.
